Who I help
Counselling for police, emergency services and the forces community
You already know what the job asks of you. You don't need to explain the culture, the shift patterns or the humour before we can get to what matters.
Police officers and staff
Response, CID, roads, firearms, custody, the control room, PCSOs and police staff. Serving, retired, or somewhere in between: off sick, on restricted duties, or under investigation.
Working with me is private and separate from your force. I don't speak to your line manager or occupational health.
I also work with police personnel through an agency, so I know the pressures of the role.
What officers and staff often bring
- Jobs that won't leave: deaths, children, assaults on you
- Years of cumulative exposure
- Complaints, IOPC or misconduct processes
- Strain at home and trouble switching off
- Sleep and shift work
- Thinking about leaving
Ambulance, fire and rescue crews
Paramedics, technicians, emergency call handlers and dispatchers, firefighters and control staff. People who attend the worst day of someone else's life, then clear up and go to the next one.
Sessions are online, so you can book around rotas without travelling, and nobody at your station or trust needs to know.
What crews often bring
- A call or a scene that keeps coming back
- Outcomes you couldn't change
- Exhaustion and long shifts
- Abuse or violence on the job
- Feeling flat, irritable or detached
- Drinking to come down after a shift
Serving personnel and veterans
Regulars, reservists and veterans of any service. Some people come about something from their service. Others come about the move out: identity, work, relationships, and finding a new routine.
If your difficulties are combat-related, we'll talk through the options at the start. NICE's EMDR recommendation is for non-combat trauma, and I'll be honest about whether a specialist veterans' service would suit you better.
Specialist services you can also use
- Op COURAGE, the NHS veterans' mental health service in England
- Combat Stress 24-hour helpline: 0800 138 1619
Not sure if this is for you?
That's what the free call is for. Ask anything, and if I'm not the right person, I'll help you find who is.
