Terms

Terms of working together

The practical side of counselling and EMDR with me: fees, payment, cancellations, and what happens if something goes wrong. I'll go through these with you before we start.

About the service

Counselling Forces is the private practice of Georgia Powell, Registered Member MBACP (Accred), BACP registration no. 19801. I offer counselling and EMDR therapy online, by video, to people across the UK. I work with adults aged 18 and over.

I follow the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, have regular clinical supervision, and hold professional indemnity insurance with Balens Ltd.

Starting out

We begin with a free 15 minute call, with no obligation, to see whether working together feels right. If we agree to go ahead, I'll send you a short written agreement covering confidentiality, fees and cancellations. We'll both keep a copy.

Fees

  • Counselling: £50 for a 50 minute session
  • EMDR therapy: £95 for a 90 minute session

If you're going through difficult financial circumstances, a reduced rate can be agreed. Just ask, and we can talk it through. If my fees change, I'll give you at least four weeks' notice.

Payment

Payment is due after each session. I'll give you payment details when we agree to work together.

Cancellations and missed sessions

Please give at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or move a session. If you cancel with less than 48 hours' notice, or miss a session, 50% of the session fee will be charged.

I know shifts change at short notice. Let me know as early as you can and I'll do my best to find another time.

If I need to cancel, I'll give you as much notice as possible and offer another time. You won't be charged.

Online sessions

  • Sessions take place on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp video, whichever suits you best. I never record sessions, and I ask that you don't either.
  • Please join from a private, quiet place where you won't be overheard or interrupted, and never while driving.
  • Please don't come to a session under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If this happens, we may need to end early and the session will still be charged.
  • If you're late, the session will still finish at the usual time.
  • If the connection drops, I'll try to reconnect. If that fails, I'll phone you.

Contact between sessions

You can email me or message me on WhatsApp to arrange or change appointments. I reply within one working day. I'm not a crisis service and can't respond straight away. If you need help urgently, call 999 or use the 24-hour support lines.

Confidentiality and your data

What you tell me stays confidential, with a few limits, which are set out on my confidentiality page. How I keep and protect your information, and how long for, is explained in my privacy policy.

Reviews and ending

We'll review how things are going from time to time. You can stop at any point, and you don't have to give a reason. Where possible, it helps to have a final session to close our work well.

If I feel another service would suit you better, I'll talk this through with you and help you find it.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with any part of our work, please tell me first. I'll listen and try to put things right.

If that doesn't resolve it, or you'd rather not raise it with me, you can contact BACP. As a registered member, I'm bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and its Professional Conduct Procedure. BACP's counselling concerns service can explain your options.
