Trauma Support for the Frontline
Frequently Asked Questions: Remote EMDR Therapy
How can EMDR work remotely over Zoom or Teams?
It works incredibly well. In a traditional office, a therapist might use a light bar or hand movements for you to follow with your eyes. Remotely, we achieve the exact same brain stimulation using a specialized, secure screen-sharing tool where you follow a moving visual on your screen, or through alternating audio tones in your headphones, or simple bilateral tactile tapping (tapping your own shoulders alternately). It is seamless, secure, and just as clinically effective as being in the same room.
Do I have to detail every single thing that happened to me?
No, and this is one of the greatest relief factors for frontline personnel. Unlike traditional talking therapies, EMDR does not require you to describe your traumatic experiences in vivid, agonizing detail out loud. You only need to hold the memory in your mind while we perform the processing sets. This protects your privacy and prevents you from feeling re-traumatized during our sessions.
Is virtual EMDR safe if I experience intense flashbacks?
Yes. Because I have decades of experience treating severe PTSD and operational trauma, our first step is always preparation. Before we do any reprocessing, I will teach you robust grounding techniques and "mental safe state" exercises. We go strictly at your pace, and you are entirely in control the whole time.
How long does treatment take to see results?
While everyone is unique, EMDR is widely recognized for its speed. Many clients experience a significant reduction in the emotional distress of a specific trauma within just 3 to 6 sessions. For complex, accumulated trauma from years on the frontline, it may take between 6 to 12 sessions to completely process the underlying triggers and restore long-term peace of mind.
How is my confidentiality protected as a UK blue light worker?
Your privacy is my highest priority. I operate completely independently of occupational health departments, the NHS, and your chain of command. No one will ever know you have contacted me or what we discuss unless you choose to tell them. Our video sessions are conducted via fully encrypted, secure platforms, and all communications are bound by the strict ethical frameworks of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Secure consultation
Your message goes directly to our BACP-accredited clinical lead. We operate completely off-the-record to protect your career and peace of mind.

We maintain absolute operational confidentiality. No GP referrals are required, no occupational health reports are generated, and we hold no duty to report to your command structure.
